School Age Program

Comprehensive Myofunctional Therapy for Children 5+ Years

The Comprehensive Myofunctional Therapy for Children Program at MyoWay is designed for children aged 5 years and older. A child's facial structure undergoes significant development, particularly around the age of 5. By 6 years old, most children have had 60-80% of their facial growth complete. This period is critical for growth and changes that lay the groundwork for proper facial alignment and function. This program addresses the unique developmental needs of school-age children, focusing on optimizing oral and facial muscle function to support their overall health and development. By targeting issues such as improper oral habits, speech challenges, and functional inefficiencies, the program aims to enhance both immediate well-being and long-term outcomes. At MyoWay, we understand the crucial importance of proper facial development during a child's formative years. Our School Program is designed to optimize facial symmetry, dental alignment, and jaw development, ensuring a healthy foundation for oral structures and airway function.

Program Objectives

  • Enhance Oral and Facial Muscle Function

Improve the coordination and strength of oral muscles, including the tongue, lips, and jaw. Proper muscle function supports better speech, efficient chewing, and overall oral health.

  • Address and Correct Oral Habits

Identify and modify detrimental oral habits such as thumb sucking, mouth breathing, or tongue thrusting. Addressing these habits helps prevent complications and supports healthier oral development.

  • Support Speech and Language Development

Enhance articulation and language skills through targeted exercises and activities that improve muscle function and coordination, contributing to clearer and more effective communication.

  • Promote Healthy Breathing Patterns

Encourage nasal breathing over mouth breathing, which supports optimal airway function and overall respiratory health. Proper breathing patterns also contribute to better focus and reduced symptoms of sleep disorders.

  • Facilitate Optimal Growth and Development

Ensure that facial, jaw  and airway development occurs harmoniously by supporting proper muscle function. This includes promoting healthy alignment of teeth and contributing to a balanced facial structure and good breathing habits.

School Age Program Overview

Our School Age Program is tailored to children aged 5 and up based on individual needs. This program focuses on:

  1. Assessment and Consultation: Our experienced therapists conduct thorough assessments to determine your child's specific needs and develop a personalized treatment plan.
  2. Referral Coordination: We coordinate referrals with specialized practitioners, including tongue tie release practitioners, chiropractors, nutritional counselors, breathing specialists, ENT specialists, or allergists, as needed for comprehensive care.
  3. Appliance Therapy: We offer functional and comfortable appliance therapy using Myosa®, Myotalea® Tongue, Lip & Jaw Appliance (TLJ), and Trainer for Kids (T4K®) appliances by MRC. These prefabricated appliances are designed to correct underlying breathing and myofunctional habits associated with SRBD.
  4. KS1 Appliance: Focuses on establishing a functional airway and initial habit correction in mouth-breathing children, especially during sleep.
  5. KS2 Appliance: Establishes nasal breathing and corrects myofunctional disorders in mouth breathers with poor habits
  6. Myotalea® Tongue, Lip & Jaw Appliance (TLJ): Improves the strength and tone of tongue, lip, jaw, and airway muscles essential for proper development. Used as an adjunct exercising appliance in treatment systems or on its own in the MyoWay Helper Program.
  7. Trainer for Kids (T4K®): A single-size, prefabricated appliance designed for treatment during the mixed dentition phase. It incorporates both myofunctional and tooth positioning characteristics, promoting proper jaw development and habit correction.

Regular follow-up sessions are scheduled to track the child’s progress, adjust the therapy plan as needed, and address any emerging concerns. This ensures that the therapy remains aligned with the child’s evolving needs.

  • Coordination with Other Health Professionals

The program integrates with the child’s overall health care by collaborating with pediatricians, orthodontists, and other relevant professionals. This comprehensive approach ensures that all aspects of the child’s development are supported.
